ICycle, a leading bicycle solutions provider in association with State Bank of India opened SBI-Great Malnad Challenge 2015 at the SBI campus on 30th September and we are covering the same for you as we thought it would be helpful to people who are looking to take up cycling to maintain fitness.
ICycle invites cycling enthusiasts across the country to participate in SBI-GMC 2015, the biggest off-road cycling challenge in India. The 6th edition of this challenge is a 700 kilometre cycling expedition across the rough terrain of the Western Ghats. The race will start from the scenic and pristine town of Madikeri and will end at Marwanthe, a coastal town near Udupi. The race will commence from 31st October and will conclude on 7th November, 2015.
ICycle aims at promoting cycling and eco-tourism across the scenic and picturesque Western Ghats of Karnataka through this challenge.
Rajni Mishra– Chief General Manager, SBI flagged off the challenge at SBI Campus, Bengaluru. Rajni Mishra also presented the event jerseys to Ameeta Baindur- one of the founders of GMC and an ardent supporter of the ride and to Naveen Shivanna- a 3-time champion of the GMC.
“It is a novel initiative that has been organized by ICYCLE.in to promote eco-tourism in the State and also to encourage the use of bicycles as a mode of transport. SBI takes great pride to be associated for the second time, with such a noble cause. This is the second year that SBI is associated with this event” said Rajni Mishra.
Also in attendance at the flag off, was Manjesh Chandrashekaran– President of ICYCLE.in. “The main objective of this challenge is to promote eco-tourism along with encouraging people to take up cycling. And over the years we have seen an increase in the number of participants and cycling enthusiasts. We hope to strengthen this interest in cycling among the people,” said Manjesh Chandrashekaran.
Around 100 cycling enthusiasts are expected to participate in this gruelling cycling challenge and is open to all. Participants can also rent MTB bikes from ICycle.in. The challenge will begin on 31st October at Madikeri and will see the cyclists passing through Bababudanagiri, one of the highest peaks in Karnataka and move to Thirthahalli- one of the most dense forests in the Western Ghats and culminate at the coastal town of Marawanthe, near Udupi on 7th November.
